Silver Strikers are set to release 10 players from their squad ahead of the 2024 season kick-off.

The club’s chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba confirmed the development in an interview yesterday, but declined to name the players.

He said: “The total number is 10. From this, some will be sent on loan, some transfer-listed and some released permanently. We are currently in the process of engaging these players to find the best possible way for them. With that, I will be very reluctant to give names.”

But according to inside sources, players linked to leave include goalkeepers Emmanuel Nyirenda and Charles Chisale who were promoted from the reserve side. Others are George Chaomba, Tathedwa Willard, China Chirwa, Philip Banda, George Chaomba and Haddy Ng’andu.

Silver coach Peter Mponda in an interview yesterday said he was happy with the squad and that there was no need for major changes.

“This is the squad that finished second in the league and reached a cup final.  It’s a good squad, but we need maybe three additional players,” he said.

Since he signed the contract Mponda has brought in three new players to the club.
